This full rebuild in Carlsbad was designed for a family of five seeking a compact, efficient home that maximized livability without excess. While the design expanded beyond the footprint of the aging original structure, the intent was to stay thoughtfully scaled to the site and neighborhood.

The plan centers around one clear spine — a simple circulation path from the front door to the backyard — bringing clarity and flow to the home. With limited square footage, we introduced volume through a lofted truss ceiling, creating an airy interior filled with natural light. The open layout includes flexible living spaces, including a den that doubles as a guest room, designed to adapt with the family’s needs.

Sliding doors from the main living area, primary suite, and flex room open onto an expansive deck that overlooks the preserved backyard, where mature guava and fruit trees were retained. The result is a modern, functional home that connects seamlessly to its outdoor space — tailored for everyday living, play, and entertaining.
